Twilight Track & Field Open Day

Saturday 3rd March 2012 (commencing at 12pm)
{Postponed Carnival originally from the 25th Feb}

Our Open Day is a popular carnival for athletes of all ages, offering a wide range of events with the exception of hurdles. It is also a good preparation carnival prior to the State Championships.
Deception Bay Amateur Athletics also provides an opportunity for Senior athletes, from the experienced to the inexperienced (Parents) to compete in the Open Under 35s and Over 35s events.

This year we will be adding two events to our popular "Cadbury Fundraiser" Gifts. These handicapped 100m sprint finals will include a U14 - Open Gift Handicap for men and women and in 2012 we will be adding a new U9 - U13 Gift Handicap for boys and girls with some great prizes to be won.

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in every U7 - U17/Open event, with participation medals for the U6 age group.
We will also have our huge canteen operating with Steak Sandwiches, Pies/Sausage Rolls, Fries/Scallops, Hot Dogs, etc, etc. In the cold canteen we will have a large variety of -ICY- cold soft drinks/Slushies, juice and water along with lollies, chips and -Ice- blocks. There will also be a mobile coffee vender operating with a good selection of hot and cold coffees for sale.

During the mid-afternoon break we will have the presentations for our "Cadbury Fundraiser" Gift winners, presentation of Medallions to all the U6 athletes and again be having our Novelty U5s 50m sprint race and of course the drawing of our raffle. Raffle Tickets will be on sale throughout the afternoon. Our Program Booklet will also be on sale and will include detailed event times, a full list of competitors for each event, Open Day Best Performances and the rules of competition.

Again we will have the Photo Finish equipment installed for all Track events which will reduce the number of Timekeepers/Place Judges required, which in turn will enable the track program to run much faster.

2012 RESULTS

We would like to thank all the athletes who attended our Open Day this year and a big thankyou to all the parents who helped out on the day. We had over 330 athletes from 25 Centres attend the Open Day this year which was good to see. Unfortunatly we had some problems with our computers this year and with the little bit of rain and the unavailability of the Photo Finish we fell a tad behind in the program, although overall we have had good comments about the day. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially the U35/O35s in which we had record numbers this year.

The "Cadbury Fundraiser" Gift men/boys and women/girl's Handicap events were again very popular with record numbers of athletes nominating for the qualifying 100m events in their particular age groups. The winner of the Junior girls handicap was won by Rebecca Clauson U9G (Caloundra), with the Junior boys handicap going to Codi Harrison U9B (Helensvale). The Senior handicap events went to Jade McNaughton U16G (Deception Bay) who took out the Women's final for the second year in a row and Patrick Patton U17B (Deception Bay) claiming victory in the Men's event. Well done to all who participated.
